Estimating Templates
Overview
The Job Estimate Template feature is designed to create generic estimating templates that can be used when bidding out jobs. Having different templates that fit your standard or common types of jobs will help you save time and money. Once the templates are created, they may be attached to a specific job cost record and modified as necessary to fit the existing job. Change Order templates may also be created and even common material lists used on similar jobs may be added to a template list for importing.
The Job Estimate Templates are designed to capture estimated costs for each of the report categories. The categories are broken down by job codes, which in turn can be broken down into material groups or labor tasks. The estimated costs can be captured by entering the quantity for material and equipment, or by entering the labor hours for each labor task.
The system will automatically calculate the total cost based on the quantity or hours entered.

· Categories, Codes and Tasks
Setup of report categories, job codes and job (labor) tasks simplifies the process of creating templates. Because these codes are tied back into inventory groups, searching for and adding inventory items becomes easier, as the system will eliminate parts for other unnecessary categories.

· New Job Estimate Template
Jobs, phases, categories, codes, parts and tasks together make up a Job Estimate Template. Your company can make as many templates as it wishes, with the ability to make each template as specific or generic as needed. If your company has been using estimating worksheets, they can be used as a guide when creating your templates. It is best to include all possible items on the estimating template and then delete or modify them later within the individual job record.

· New Change Order Template
Because change orders are inevitable and are often large in number, Shafer's Job Costing Module will also provide you with the ability to create change order templates. Although change orders tend to be unique and variab from contractor to contractor, templates may be as generic or as detailed as is necessary and can always be modified later within the specific job record. Having a template created still saves time when adding change orders to the job.

· Material Lists
Material List templates may also be created to save time when adding materials/inventory to a job. Make a list template of common materials needed for a specific job and re-use the templates for new jobs requiring the same basic parts. Edit the materials listed on a job as needed once the template has been attached.

· Importing a Template to the Job
Once an estimating template is created, it may then be imported when creating a new job. The system will automatically ask the user if a template should be imported. If the user does not wish to use a template, he simply says "no". To learn more about how the template is imported, you may click on the link at right.
